Planned Giving
Create a Lasting Legacy: Make a Planned Gift to NMF
A planned gift to National Medical Fellowships (NMF) is a profound way to invest in the future of medicine while also achieving your personal financial and philanthropic goals. By making a long-term commitment, you will help ensure that aspiring physicians—many of whom may not otherwise have the opportunity—receive the support they need to fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors and serving communities that urgently need their care.
At a time when the United States is experiencing a growing physician shortage, particularly in expanding medical deserts, your planned gift will help build a robust and well-prepared medical workforce. Studies show that when patients are cared for by physicians who understand their lived experiences and unique challenges, health outcomes improve, trust in health care systems strengthens, and communities thrive. Your generosity will directly impact the next generation of health care leaders, allowing them to complete their training and expand access to compassionate, high-quality care for all.
Beyond supporting individual scholars, planned gifts also strengthen NMF’s long-term financial sustainability, ensuring that the organization can continue its vital work for generations to come. By growing NMF’s financial foundation, planned giving creates a lasting source of funding to expand scholarships, mentorship programs, research initiatives, and leadership development opportunities. This builds a stable and enduring wealth base that enables NMF to adapt to emerging challenges, launch innovative programs, and make a greater impact on the future of medicine.
Ways to Make a Planned Gift
Traditionally, Planned Giving referred to making donations to organizations via a bequest, but now it incorporates giving in a number of ways, including gifts from your IRA, Trust, Donor Advised Fund, Life Insurance Policy, and more. Planned gifts are a promise to NMF today to help advance our mission for future generations.
- Bequests: Naming NMF as a beneficiary is easy and reduces your estate taxes. A bequest can be made in the form of a specific gift of cash or property, or a percentage of the remainder of an estate.
- Donor-Advised Funds: Recommend a future gift through your donor-advised fund.
- Giving Using an IRA: Individuals may make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from their IRA direction to NMF at the age of 70 ½. The amount of the QCD is excluded from a donor’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and thus is not subject to income tax; donors do not receive an income tax charitable deduction for this gift. Donors age 73 and over may use QCDs to satisfy some or all of their Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) up to $108,000 annually. In some cases, donors may wish to name NMF a designated beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or life insurance policy.
By planning your gift today, you are making an investment in the future of medicine, the stability of NMF, and the strength of our nation’s health care system. Your generosity will ensure that future doctors receive the training they need, address critical workforce shortages, and provide care where it is needed most.
