Supporting Excellence, Innovation, Diversity, and Research

Established in 2019 in honor of James McCune Smith, MD, who was the first African American to receive a medical degree in the United States, the scholarship provides a $5,000 award to one African American, Afro Latino (a), or Native American student enrolled in an accredited medical school in Connecticut, New Jersey, or New York. Scholars exemplify the qualities of James McCune Smith, MD in their commitment for excellence, innovation, diversity, and research.
