A Cushion for PAD: Analyzing the Impact of Delayed Peripheral Arterial Disease Diagnosis on Limb Amputations in Marginalized Communities

Medical School/Institution:
Project Location/Site: Georgetown University School of Medicine
Year:
Key Outcomes:
Using novel Janssen data, we demonstrate disparate amputations undertaken by minority demographics. In doing so, actionable steps involving interpersonal counseling, community partnerships and outreach ,insurance and health policy advocacy, as well as preventative ABI screenings have been identified as imperative interventions supported by SLCL and associated health care advocates. Earlier detection may prevent the overwhelming late-stage necessity and incidence rates of amputations.
