Our Journey Matters series allows scholars an opportunity to learn about a featured mentor's path in order to inform their own journey.
Our Speaker
Dr. Omondi Nyong’o is currently a Pediatric and Adult Strabismus Ophthalmologist at his private practice, Crescendo MD. He is also a Clinician Educator at Stanford University in the Department of Ophthalmology and at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Dr. Nyong’o earned an Sc.B. in Neuroscience Cum Laude from Brown University and his M.D. from the University of California San Francisco.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nyong’o has supported several thousand families by collaborating with primary and specialty care doctors in Silicon Valley, the United States, and internationally. Dr. Nyong’o served as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) where during his 15-year tenure he also led philanthropy and research. His personalized approach to medicine and surgery for each child and each adult with strabismus is designed to maximize the development and restoration of one’s innate vision potential.
Among his innovative contributions, Dr. Nyong’o generated best practices for early, safe detection of sight disorders via large-scale preschool vision screenings. His work for Bay Area families is ongoing.
