Join us for our inaugural Seeding Excellence session on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 7:30-8:30pm EDT. This new series gives you an opportunity to learn about the work and impact of young alumni and scholars. In this session, we’re excited to hear from young alumni, Tania Gennell, MD and Caylon Pettis. Register today!  

Our Speakers 

Dr. Tania Gennell is President of NMF’s Young Leaders Council and recipient of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Scholarship. She earned her B.A. in Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles and completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at San Francisco State University prior to applying to medical school. She graduated from Ohio State University College of Medicine with her medical degree. Now, Dr. Gennell serves as a general surgery resident at NYU Langone Health-Long Island. She is passionate about mentoring those underrepresented in medicine as an avid participant in the Latino Surgical Society, Association of Women Surgeons, and locally, MAPP, to Columbia University, a program geared towards underprivileged high school students in the Washington Heights area as they learn about careers in healthcare. 

Caylon Pettis is Treasurer of NMF’s Young Leaders Council and a fourth-year medical student pursuing MD/MPH dual degree at Loyola University Chicago. Alongside his medical education, Caylon actively engages in public health initiatives, research, leadership roles, and community advocacy. He has worked on various projects, including the Diverse Medical Scholars Program, where he focused on improving access to quality health care in underserved communities. Caylon has also presented research addressing topics such as adverse childhood experiences, healthcare barriers, and nutrition education. With unwavering commitment, compassion, and dedication, Caylon is poised to create a positive change in the communities he serves as he continues his medical journey.
