Our Speakers

Nkechi Onyewuenyi, is a physician assistant student in the University of Southern California's Primary Care Physician Assistant Program. She is a previous recipient of the NMF Primary Care Leadership Program (PCLP) award. She completed her research at Clinica Monsignor Oscar Romero, where she conducted a project on addressing barriers to accessing consistent prenatal care in communities that face the greatest health challenges.
Prior to PA school, Onyewuenyi’s career focused on improving access to quality care for all. After earning her bachelor’s in public health from the University of Houston, she worked with children in the foster care system, created health education programs, and worked with patients diagnosed with HIV who had fallen out of care to get them reconnected to services. She also served on the Houston Ryan White Planning Council, which was designed to advocate for better services and policies for people living with HIV.

Michael Belmonte, M.D., is a Complex Family Planning subspecialist and an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn State University.
Dr. Belmonte grew up in Chicago and completed his Bachelor of Science in Human Communication Sciences & Disorders and Psychology at Northwestern University. He then received his medical training at the University of Illinois in Chicago. There, he became an NMF scholar; learning to serve in communities that face the greatest health challenges and work with stakeholders to conduct research and build programs to give back.
He went on to residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis. He then completed his subspecialty fellowship training at the University of Colorado, focusing on contraceptive and abortion care. Throughout his career, Dr. Belmonte has worked with the World Health Organization. He has also held a prestigious position as the national spokesperson for family planning as the Darney-Landy Fellow at the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists.
