Our Speakers
Kya Locklear, an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of NC, is a third year MD/MPH student at Tulane University School of Medicine. She graduated cum laude from Duke University in 2021 where she completed her undergraduate degree in biology. She was recognized as a 2019 Udall Undergraduate Scholar for her future promise promoting the health of Indigenous peoples on an individual and systemic level. At Tulane, she has dedicated over 500 hours as a research assistant for an NIH-funded violence and substance misuse prevention program specifically adapted for Native American families. She is a participant in the NMF Health Equity Leaders Program (HELP), qualitatively researching resilience and disruptions among Native American families of a Southeastern tribe during COVID-19. She plans to pursue a career in primary care or psychiatry where she can use her medical and public health tools to advocate for holistic health for Indigenous families of the Southeast.
Kamron Robinson, M.D., is a PGY-4 in a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He began his academic journey at Jackson State University and continued at Morehouse School of Medicine, where he served as Student Government Association President and was named a White House Initiative on HBCUs Scholar. His dedication to health excellence has earned him honors such as NMA Rising Scholar, NMF Rural Scholar, and NMF Alumni Council Awardee. He was most recently named one of the two Resident Physician of the Year by the Tennessee Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Robinson is passionate about reducing challenges in health care, particularly for underserved and minority communities, and actively mentors aspiring physicians. He aims to create more inclusive medical environments and drive equity in education and patient care.
