United Health Foundation Program Advisory Council

National Medical Fellowships (NMF) would like to invite you to be on the Advisory Committee for the United Health Foundation/NMF Diverse Medical Scholars Program, sponsored by the United Health Foundation. This opportunity awards 30 qualified underrepresented minority medical students who exhibit leadership and community commitment to conduct a self-directed community health project in a medically underserved community. Targeted locations are:

Arizona (Phoenix)
Florida (Orlando, Tampa and Miami)
Georgia (Atlanta)
New Mexico (Albuquerque)
Greater New York (Including NY, CT, PA, NJ)
Tennessee (Nashville)
Texas (San Antonio)
Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

The three duties of our committee members are as follows:

1. Assist in recruiting applicants
2. Review applications
3. Mentor applicants – If needed, give them guidance on their project, career mentoring, etc.

As NMF alumni, you have the knowledge of what it takes to be a Scholar. It is this expertise that will help us deliver strong fellows for the 2016-2017 academic year. Offering your time and know-how to our newest NMF Scholars will not only keep you connected to the organization, but it will also help you pay-it-forward to a student who needs your help to succeed.

The deadline to apply for the UHF/NMF Diverse Medical Scholars Program is September 15th, so we are looking to establish this committee as soon as possible to assist with the recruiting and selection of applicants. During application review, we typically give the committee three weeks to evaluate 5-7 of the applications. This will take place during the end of September or beginning of October. Please feel free to contact Tamekia Jackson at tjackson@nmfonline.org, with any questions or concerns.
