A first generation Nigerian-American medical student, Otega Esegine has a history of giving back to her community. Otega always felt it was her duty to give back to underserved communities within the US, but also on a global level. Hence, she became a member of the Medical Students for Africa to gain the opportunity to give back on a global scale. As a member, she has the opportunity to participate in community health fairs where she is able to disseminate health information to members of local African churches. Otega is also making strides in the research field as a student researcher at Howard University Cancer Center.
Fonteneaux, Gabrielle 1 Gabrielle Fonteneaux

Demonstrated through continued community service, Gabrielle has a passion for ensuring the wellbeing of others. During her undergraduate years, Gabrielle committed her time to a student group that provided blood pressure screenings and disseminated health information in underserved areas of New York City. As a first year medical student, Gabrielle currently volunteers at a free student-run, attending-supervised clinic that serves the underserved and uninsured residents of Washington, D.C. She also serves as the vice president of community service for an international medicine interest group and seeks to provide her colleagues with a diverse number of service opportunities within local ethnic communities.
